Saturday - 18 January 2014 Meeting

Our first Saturday meeting for 2014 was a great success. Despite the very warm weather, we had a great turnout. Planning is well underway for our 30th Anniversary Exhibition this year. It looks like being the best yet!! We presented two cheques to our nominated charities. The money for these donations comes from the sale of tickets for our raffle quilt at the Exhibition.

Here is Debra from John Hunter Children's Hospital, presenting our
President Enid with a certificate in appreciation of the donation just given.
The two groups to receive a donation were John Hunter Children's Hospital and Jenny's Place. We had some great feedback from Jenny's Place on how much the quilts we donate there mean to the women and children whom the centre assists. They are well loved and much appreciated. We will be nominating the recipients for this years donation at the next Saturday meeting.

The raffle quilt (top only at this stage) for the 2014 raffle
Above is the wonderful quilt top which will be the raffle quilt for 2014. It is going to look magnificent once it is complete.

As always members are working on fantastic projects. English Paper Piecing is still popular. So in a break from hexagons, here are some other EPP blocks inspired by Rachel Porter.

A wonderfully bright kids quilt for one luck recipient.

A lovely, elegant quilt inspired by Paris. I love the colours and the scalloped border is great.

This quilt was a UFO which was donated by a member. A great way to get it off the UFO list and into a good home!! It now goes to Community Quilts for distribution.

Back in 2014 - Buy, Sell, Swap

And we start off another year!! It's been a very warm summer so far and not exactly quilting weather. Time for making some tops (to be quilted when it cools down a bit!).

The first Saturday meeting of the year will be this week 18 Jan 2014. There won't be a shop in attendance but we will be doing Buy, Sell, Swap. January’s meeting will present an opportunity for you to offload any fabric, books, quilting gadgets, etc., that you no longer want, as it will be a “BRING, BUY, SELL AND SWAP” day. So have a look through your fabrics and take the chance to reduce that stash (HA, HA)!

The Friday night group have already met this year. Friday Night ladies have returned in good numbers for our 1st 2014 meeting. The next Friday nights will be 17th and 31st January. On the 28th February we will be having a “fussy cutting” workshop with Rachael and Jacki from Blueberries will be bringing the travelling shop along with her. This workshop is filling fast so let me know if you want to come. We will start at 6.30pm that night and the workshop will be 3 hours.

And the Tuesday group is still going strong - Again we have had a great month of show and tell. One of our members, Patricia James was approached by the ladies she helps with various crafts at a retirement village, to make a quilt they could hang when they had their church service. We congratulate her on this spectacular quilt.
