Change of Venue and Time for Tuesday Group
Please note that the Tuesday group have now changed venues. The will now be at the New Lambton Community Centre (where Friday and Saturday groups currently meet). The new meeting time will be 9.30am - 1.30pm.
Community Quilts
Community Quilts are off to a big start in 2014. There are two block projects underway. The first is the Square Deal Community Block.
This block is called Square Deal. It is to be made up in 1930's repro fabrics and white on white fabrics. Instructions can be found here and will be on the Community Quilts page. The completed blocks are due to the 28 March 2014 meeting.
The second project is a Whirlygig block. To participate in this project see Michelle at each Saturday meeting. She will have baggies to give out that has all the fabric cut out ready to sew and instructions. These little blocks make great leader and ender projects. Using this method you sew the blocks up without even trying!!
This is an ongoing project. We will just keep making blocks until we have enough of a matching style to make a quilt. The first set of blocks went super fast (which is great!!) and there will be alot more at the next meeting.
Below is an example of the Whirlygig block. We also need 5 1/2" squares of fabric to make up the block packs. We are especially after bright, novelty prints for kids quilts (esp for boys!). So if you have any left over 5" squares, we'd love them. Even one square is enough for half a block. If you can donate a few squares please give to Michelle or Elizabeth at the Saturday meetings.
Block of the Quarter
Block of the Quarter is up and running again. This quarters block is really pretty and very easy to make. Packs cost $1. In the pack you will receive enough fabric to make up the brown and cream four patches. Detailed instructions are available and will be posted on the Block of the Quarter page.
Churn Dash Block Swap
As expected the first set of Churn Dash Swap blocks were fabulous!! Much hard work and planning goes on behind the scenes of this type of swap and the results are there to see.
The lovely Cheryl Sherlock as volunteered to co-ordinate the 5th Saturday group. Location will be the New Lambton Community Centre and the times will be from 10am - 2pm. For more details contact Cheryl on 0407 462 730.
Show and Tell
There was only one show and tell (but I was holding up my own project so I couldn't take a photo!), so here is one I posted onto my blog.
It is a top only and is 42" by 70". The odd size is so they fit on the standard bunks used by the various military forces in Australia. This is a quilt made for the Aussie Hero Quilts project. I figured you can't go wrong with green and gold!
These lovely panels were made by Elaine's Mum with beautiful hand dyed fabrics. Elaine is finishing them off and making up the quilt. Pictures don't do these justice, the colours and shading are just amazing in person.
Here is Anthony still working away hard on his repro inspired applique project. I love that pink!! The other blocks are just gorgeous. Can't wait to see this one as a completed project.
The Friday night ladies are currently taking a Fussy Cutting Workshop using English Paper Piecing. Here are a couple of the blocks that they've made. The centre section is made from the same fabric but just cut out differently. What a difference it makes.
Such cute, bright little blocks under construction!! Another beauty in the making.
