Saturday Meeting - 20 Feb 2016

Another busy Saturday group. Lots of handwork being done and the techniques classes are off to a great start for the year.

Our raffle quilt has been quilted. It looks absolutely fabulous in person. Job well done by all involved.

January Presidents Report

Due to technical difficulties (I thought I'd put it in the newsletter but didn't), the President's Report was missing from the Jan 2016 Newsletter. Please find it below.

President's Report

I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and is feeling refreshed.  2016 will be a busy year with our exhibition from 11th to 13th November – so mark these dates in your diary.  Catherine Bremmell has volunteered to be the Tuesday Representative as well as exhibition organiser for this year.  Technique classes have always been popular and Elizabeth Buckles is happy to coordinate these,  so anyone who has a project  they would like to share please contact her with your ideas.  We all like to learn new skills.  Expertise Events will be held again this year from 18th – 21st August.  Novocastrian Quilters will have a small exhibit as we did last year but a volunteer is needed to coordinate rosters and setting up our display, so please think about helping out ( it doesn’t have to be just one person).
I was delighted to donate a cheque for $2,800 to Lesley from the Cystic Fibrosis foundation – the proceeds of our Raffle Quilt in 2015.  She was thrilled and grateful to receive this amount – much more than she had imagined.  Once more the generosity of our group was evident in the huge amount of items donated to the Sexual Assault Unit. A great big thank you to everyone for this effort just before Christmas and to the Tuesday ladies who also contributed $208 towards the Unit.  Our Saturday group decided to have a raffle in aid of the Samaritan’s Homeless Appeal in lieu of a Secret  Santa and raised $190.  We have received letters from three very deserving organisations requesting to be the beneficiary of our 2016 Raffle Quilt.  Voting has commenced and will be finalised in January.  The treasurer suggested that, because we are financially healthy at present, a donation of $500 be awarded to each of the two losing applicants this year.  This was heartily approved by the group.  And, just a reminder that the January Saturday meeting will be BUY, SELL & SWAP.
